The home of Cambridge University's Formula Student team.

Established in 2006, Full Blue Racing is a team of University of Cambridge students who take part in the international Formula Student competition. Formula Student challenges teams of students to design and build a small formula-style race car, with the design brief that the car is a prototype for a 1000 unit-per-year production run for a vehicle intended for amateur autocross racers. With this in mind, teams are assessed not only on the speed and handling of the car, but also on business, cost and design presentations; thus the competition provides a good all-round representation of a real design challenge.

FBR is based in the University's Department of Engineering, where we enjoy the use of the workshop facilities and a project room, shared with other undergraduate projects.

In our first year (2006-7), the team's aims were to establish the team within the University, and show that even with the demands of a full-time degree course, it is possible to design and build a car in time for the summer's events. We were successful in achieving these aims, and FBR managed to take our first ever car to Formula Student Germany at Hockenheim in August 2007. This was an invaluable experience in finding out exactly what the demands were in producing a car, and gave us a chance to look at other cars and see what made a successful vehicle.

Armed with the knowledge and experience gained in our first year, Full Blue Racing entered the 2007-8 academic year confident that we could return to Hockenheim in August 2008 with a truly competitive car. Again, we accomplished our aims and competed in the 2008 Formula Student Germany competition. This culminated in a strong performance in the endurance race and spurred the team on for 2009. The aims for the 2009 season remain simple but look to the future - the FBR09's primary aims are reliability, sound engineering design and exceptional handling, looking to build a depth of knowledge in the team to build on in coming years. In 2009 the team will be entering the UK competition as well as the Germany event, seeking wider exposure to both sponsors and racing!
